She was aged 69. Recall that the gangstar rapper held her in high esteem before his death hence the hit song Dear Mama which he recorded to eulogize her in 1995.

The police say there are no proofs to establish that she died from any premeditated attack, adding that the death was from natural events. The late activist was reportedly in the company of a friend before she suffered the attack.

According to Marin County’s Sheriff Lt. Doug Pittman who spoke to NY Daily News, Afeni experienced some discomfort which got severe after some time prompting a call to 911.

Pittman said: “Attempts were made to try to remedy those problems at home, but when they got more severe, it was at that time the family friend called 911 and asked for medical help.

” Reports say the paramedics arrived the scene at 9.30pm and swung into action, immediately performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on her after which she was rushed to the Marin General Hospital. She was reportedly treated for an hour before she passed on.

It is yet to be decided whether or not an autopsy will be performed but reports say investigations are ongoing at the coroner’s division. It is expected that the deceased’s family members will be addressed soon on matters concerning her recent health history and medical records among other things. Alice Faye ‘Afeni Shakur’ Williams was a well-known activist who was arrested in 1969 for her involvements with the Black Panther movement.

By 1971 she was discharged and acquitted of prior charges of conspiracy to blow up multiple areas in the city alongside other members of the movement. The activist and philanthropist gave birth to Tupac a month after being acquitted.

Until her death, she was in charge of the late rapper’s estate which brought in an estimated $900, 000 annually. Hers was an impressive story of how she battled cocaine addiction in the mid-1980s up until her son Tupac was old enough to confront her about the situation. According to CNN: “He asked me if I could handle it, and I said yeah because I’d been dipping and dabbing all my life. “What pissed him off is that I lied to him. ‘Pac told the local drug dealers not to sell to [me].” According to her, the Ghetto Gospel rapper told her to get clean or to forget about being involved in his life.

Eventually she cleaned up her acts in 1991. Though tempted to return to drug after his death in 1996 in Las Vegas she suppressed the urge, and set up the Amaru Entertainment instead to keep the late rapper’s dreams alive.
